His work is inspired by the unconscious dreamscape of his mind, the intensity of the natural world of Western Washington with its fantastic shades of green, ever-changing sky, and brooding mountains.

For most of his career, Michael has worked in relative obscurity, choosing to sell and share his artwork with his local community and region, focusing on creating rather than participating in the mainstream art world.
